Michael Gravelle

Michael Gravelle was first elected to the Ontario Legislature in 1995. He is currently the Minister of Northern Development and Mines. He previously served as the Minister of Natural Resources from 2011 until 2013 and as the Minister of Northern Development and Mines in 2007, and in 2009, took on the additional portfolio of Forestry. He continues to serve in that role, and in his role as M.P.P., with pride and enthusiasm. He’s lobbied hard for his riding - and the results are undeniable!

Michael's efforts have spurred job growth and economic diversity through tough economic times, and he's committed and passionate about making sure new opportunities like the Ring of Fire will benefit the people of Thunder Bay-Superior North.

His vision of four-laning the Trans-Canada Highway from Thunder Bay to Nipigon is becoming reality. He’s played a major role in improving education – including full-day kindergarten, a brand-new high school, the new Faculty of Law and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine at Lakehead University, the new REACH building and expanded programs at Confederation College, and more!

Health care is another priority. He brought forth private member’s bills which resulted in access to insulin pumps for all Type II diabetics, he lobbied for the angioplasty clinic and other improvements at TBRHSC, and ensured seniors in our riding have access to high-quality, comprehensive long-term care.

Michael has always been a motivated leader and a people-person. He is co-founder of the North of Superior Film Association, has been on the Boards of Directors for Magnus Theatre and the AIDS Committee of Thunder Bay and is active with the Alzheimers Society and the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Born in 1949, Michael was raised and educated in Thunder Bay, which he's always been proud to call home. He is always happy to stop and chat about issues, your concerns and your good ideas for building a strong and prosperous Thunder Bay-Superior North!
