“Today’s announcement demonstrates our ongoing commitment to smaller municipalities, particularly here in Northwestern Ontario. I’m pleased to see this investment in Nipigon’s infrastructure, and I’m confident that our proposed new $100 million infrastructure fund will be instrumental in supporting communities with future needs.†– Michael Gravelle, MPP Thunder Bay-Superior North
“This funding will be instrumental in helping Nipigon take advantage of current work identified in our long term infrastructure renewal plan. Having a plan that identifies priorities is important but just as important is having funding available to address the priorities.†– Mayor Richard Harvey, Town of Nipigon
“We are dedicated to working with municipalities, especially our rural partners, to help make critical infrastructure investments that will strengthen our communities across the province. Through the Municipal Infrastructure Strategy, the Province and municipalities are working together to prioritize needs so the right investments are made at the right time.†— Glen Murray, Minister of Infrastructure
· First announced in August 2012, the Municipal Infrastructure Investment Initiative has already distributed $9 million to small, rural and Northern municipalities to help prepare asset management plans.
· Since 2003, the Ontario government has provided approximately $13 billion to help municipalities modernize and expand transit, repair and upgrade roads and bridges, improve water and wastewater treatment, and revitalize community infrastructure.
